A little bit about Our Babies the Out and About initiative that I have set up and it is slowly but surely and “in proper fashion” coming to fruition.
Many ask what’s in a pack and how can I help?
Well here is some info.
This is an initiative that I will launch this August officially ( loads of planning has taken place)…
My aim is to get 1200 of these packs into Maternity at HBDHB to be distributed to the most vulnerable babies. It won’t be a given that all babies receive these packs (it’s not possible) but approx 60% of our babies go home with very little. This little starter kit is to help keep them warm and to tell their mums that we care.
I have (and still are) fundraising for merino to make merino wraps (thanks to my lady D sewers for helping cut up wraps and sew them up with the sewing team)…and the Yarn HB knitters who are knitting up a storm.
Other items in the pack will have to be new or “excellent condition”. All items are in newborn size.
If you have wool to donate Yarn HB would love love love it! 4 ply or 8 ply pure wool I believe.
If you have new or excellent condition newborn cotton onesies, merino onesies, cotton or merino singlets, cotton beanie style hats or woollen knotted items in newborn size then I will be collecting these also. I also am after Muslins and cotton wraps. I am using all natural fibres due to safe sleep regulations, preventing babies overheating, which means the temperature is regulated etc.
So natural fibres, newborn, new or excellent condition only please ( these packs are designed to be a beautiful gift so I want all items to have a standard)… it’s a gift and I want everything to be “just so”.
No Clothes or Wool, but still want to help?
If you or your business want to donate to this initiative here is the information.
You can contact me via my FB page (link here)
Thank you xx
It’s going to be a massive job but a great legacy for OAA and us as a community to create for our precious newborns who don’t choose poverty, deprivation etc. They deserve to be born into love and to be nurtured and for me, this is a way… a start! 💜 xxx Gabby
The Merino wraps will be put into a pack which contains
- a cotton onesie,
- a cotton singlet (or Merino if donated),
- a hat,
- a cardigan if these are donated,
- a singlet hand knitted
- a warm (similar to the fish and chip style) top
- as well as socks or booties
- I will also add a small muslin or cotton wrap or burp cloth (where I can).
Where can I drop off clothing donations?
Drop-offs are DK Legal in Hastings or Bazaar the Empire Ahuriri or Dream Team Clean Onekawa.
